Alex Greenwood has hailed Manchester City’s ‘unbelievable’ character after our potentially seismic 1-0 Barclays Women’s Super League victory over Chelsea.

Gareth Taylor’s side moved level on points with Emma Hayes’ side at the division’s summit with the hard fought success which also ended the Londoners 33 match unbeaten streak at Kingsmeadow.

For the fourth straight match, we maintained a battling clean sheet in the success which helped us extend our own formidable run to 11 successive wins in all competitions.

And the England international paid tribute to her teammates’ mentality as the title race heats up.

“[I feel] relieved and delighted. [I was] so glad when the final whistle went,” she declared.

“Unbelievable character from the team to come here and do that against this team. It’s unbelievable.

“I think we showed two different sides to us today. We played when we could, we defended resiliently.

“It’s a massive win, we stick together. Go away on international break and come back with eight games to go. Stay focused and go again.”

City remain in second place behind Chelsea on goals scored, and although the win has far from settled who will claim the league title, it could be a potentially precious three points before the curtain falls on the term.

The Blues are still fighting on three fronts at the business end of the campaign with a place in the semi-final of the Continental Cup and quarter-final of the FA Cup already secured.

But Greenwood as urged her colleagues to maintain our high standards as we bid to add to our trophy cabinet.

She added: “I think we’ve always had what it takes [to win the league], I think for us it’s staying humble and we do what we do every day of the week.

“We stay focused with eight games to go but we’ll enjoy this and we should enjoy this. We’ll then regroup and go again.”
