City lifted the Barclays Women’s Super League last term and after victories over Birmingham City and Aston Villa we are the only team to maintain a 100% record so far this season.
And despite the Blues being the current WSL champions, Jeglertz says his team are hungry to challenge afresh again rather than simply defend the title with Liverpool the next assignment on Friday night.
“I am proud we are performing,” he said.
“We don’t talk about title defence. We talk about chasing another title.
“That’s what we are in for at the moment, winning each game, developing in each game.
“So far we have won both games, played good attacking football but couple of instance in the defence we need to be sharper in.
“We are coming into a period with a lot of games. Looking forward to that. I am happy with that we have done so far.”
The Blues have a formidable record on home soil having yet to drop points at the Joie Stadium in the WSL.
Despite that statistic, the City boss stressed that ‘every game has its own life’ as he preached the old adage of taking each match as it comes.
“I don’t think like that. We actually lost against Chelsea in the cup, but not in the league we haven’t dropped any points,” he added.
“I’m not and I now the players are not thinking about that.
“Each game is a new opportunity to get three points and a new challenge with a new opponent.
“Every game lives its own life. If we’ve won 15 games at home or 3, it doesn’t matter.
“We have good confidence, it’s very difficult to come here, we have the crowd with us and we are familiar with everything.
“We know that it’s very tough and that confidence is something we use but nothing else than that.”
Finally, Jeglertz was asked for his thoughts on this week’s opponents.
Last season’s head-to-head saw us play out two tightly contested games as we came away with a 2-1 win at Anfield and a 1-0 victory at the Joie Stadium towards the end of the season.
The Reds have started the current term unbeaten with a 4-0 victory over newcomers Charlton followed by a 1-1 draw against Tottenham.
Despite our record recent against Liverpool, Jeglertz says the Reds have improved but insisted we have too!
“They had a good game against us in May.
“They have a couple of new players but it’s mostly the same squad and same coaching staff so they know how to challenge us.
“We need to take learnings from that but we are also on a better level today.
“We were good then but now we are on a good level.”
Despite finishing 11th in the league last season, the manager believes Friday’s visitors are on the up and should be taken extremely seriously in this week’s exciting home fixture.
“There is a lot of teams,” he said on if Liverpool can break into the traditional top four.
“You can look at the list that have done good recruitment, coaches that have been there more than one year.
“Liverpool is definitely a team that is going to have a bright future, they are doing good things.
“They have all opportunities to be challenging all teams in the league. Yes for sure.”
