Casparij has been training with the squad this week ahead of our latest Barclays Women’s Super League game on Saturday 25 April (12:00 UK kick-off), having been withdrawn from international duty during the recent break.
Miedema was also ruled out ahead of the Netherlands’ two fixtures with a reported injury, but Jeglertz has confirmed her absence is due to family matters.
Speaking about the Dutch duo, our Head Coach said: “Kerstin [Casparij] is back in full training.
“Unfortunately Viv [Miedema] is not available due to some family matters. Otherwise everyone else is available.
With 15 goal involvements in 17 WSL appearances this season, Miedema has been one of City’s standout performers in our pursuit of the title.
But while Jeglertz was quick to praise her influence in 2025/26, he also pointed to the excellent attacking options still available to him this weekend.
Indeed, our Head Coach provided a positive update to his squad selection this weekend with Grace Clinton back in contention to travel.
“Viv has been amazing for us in that role and she has had a fantastic season, she has done so many things,” began Jeglertz when asked who City fans might expect to see in the number 10 position on Saturday.
“We have an opportunity now in this game to see another player in that role and you mentioned a couple of options [Aoba Fujino, Kerolin, Mary Fowler]. All of them could play there.
“Grace Clinton is back and they’re players [that] can do that. That can be more unpredictable for Brighton because they don’t know what we will bring because it will be a different kind of 10 to Viv Miedema.”
Whilst 19 players from Jeglertz’s squad travelled the globe during the latest international break, a selection of players continued to work hard at the City Football Academy over the past two weeks.
And the Head Coach highlighted the importance of their sessions, as well as how their intensity and sharpness will help keep the returning players focused.
“They’ve been training very well,” Jeglertz continued.
“I’m always impressed that we have a group of a couple of players that is not going away, being here and training.
“The energy has been great and the focus is very important for our team that the ones that are not going away are still doing good training sessions so we are all on the same level and prepared for the coming week. Everyone looks very sharp.”
