Andrée Jeglertz says Mary Fowler could be in line to get some minutes on the pitch as she steps up her comeback from her long-term knee injury.

The Australia international has played just 15 minutes since rupturing her Anterior Cruciate Ligament in April last year.

Fowler was named in the Matildas’ 26-woman squad for the Asia Cup which kicks off when Australia face the Philippines in Perth on March 1.

The winger has suffered some setbacks since returning the first team squad but Jeglertz says she will be in contention for City’s FA Cup fifth round with Sheffield United at the Joie Stadium on Sunday at 14:00 (UK).

Asked if Fowler will be available, Jeglertz said: “Definitely.

“She had some smaller setbacks the last few weeks. But now she’s been training fully this week, if nothing special happens in the last days she will be available to get minutes.”

The Asia Cup runs until the final on Saturday 21 March meaning that players could miss our Women’s Super League clash with Aston Villa on 15 March and against Tottenham seven days later.

Fowler is not the only City player at the tournament with Ayaka Yamashita, Yui Hasegawa and Aoba Fujino called up to the Japan squad.

Jeglertz is confident that City will cope with their losses having managed a few injuries that hit the squad during autumn.

“I think we have built a squad that will manage even though we lose players,” he added.

“During Autumn we had quite a few injuries and managed to do good games. And this would be the same.

“We will miss great players but have a strong squad to face those games without them.”

The City boss says we will approach Sunday’s FA Cup clash against WSL2 side Sheffield United like any other game, with no suggestion of taking the Blades lightly.

We go into the tie on the back of an impressive 6-0 victory over Leicester but he insists there are still things that can be improved.

“I think we definitely feel that we did a good game and I think that always give a good mood,” Jeglertz said.

“But for this group we feel that we created a lot of chances, we scored nice goals.

“But we feel there is still things we can do a little better and things we want to improve. Even though we’re in a great place but feel places to grow in.”
