Andrée Jeglertz says watching his players celebrate our Barclays Women’s Super League title success is a huge source of personal pride.

Our Head Coach has become only the second manager in WSL history to finish as champions in their first season in charge, with City matching our best-ever points haul on the final day.

The Blues have led the way since early November and sealed the title with a game to spare when Arsenal failed to beat Brighton last Wednesday.

It led to memorable celebrations after our 4-1 win over West Ham United, and Jeglertz admitted that he enjoyed stepping away and savouring a special moment in our history.

He said: “In these moments, it’s special just observing.

“I became a bit of a passive celebrator because just getting to see their happiness, the players, the staff and the fans and everybody here makes you feel so full of emotions.

“Getting to see other people happy is always a thing that gives me pleasure.”

Given the title was already sealed, City would perhaps have been forgiven for delivering a slightly off-colour performance but instead put on another imperious display.

Jade Rose opened the scoring with her first WSL goal early on, with Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw notching a brace either side of a West Ham strike from Seraina Piubel, before Laura Coombs completed the scoring late on.

Jeglertz admitted he wasn’t surprised by the intensity of City’s display, and felt it reflected his players’ impressive season as a whole.

“There is something about this group that, no matter what, we said we would enjoy the game but every time you have the City shirt on, there are expectations from each other and also everyone else,” he added.

“The standard should always be at a high level.

“Today, the players showed they are able to do that no matter what.”
