We’re delighted to announce that Aoba Fujino has signed a new three-year contract with Manchester City.

The Japan international has penned an extension which will keep her at the Joie Stadium until the summer of 2030.

She arrived at the Blues in the summer of 2024 from Tokyo Verdy Beleza as one of the brightest talents in the game and was her nation’s youngest-ever senior scorer on the international stage.

Fujino has since developed into a key member of Andrée Jeglertz’s side and has amassed 52 appearances for the Club, scoring 11 goals.

The 22-year-old was also instrumental in our 2025/26 double-winning success, grabbing seven goals and three assists across the campaign, including finding the net in our FA Cup final triumph over Brighton.

Committing her future to City by signing an extension until the summer of 2030, she’s ready to continue that exciting development.

Speaking about her new deal, Fujino said: “I feel like there’s still so much I can develop here at this club, and that’s a big part of it [why I’ve extended].

“Two years in, I know I’m capable of more than I’ve shown.

“I’ve always felt so supported. Right from the start, when I first arrived at City, everyone welcomed me so warmly, the fans cheered me on, all of that just made City and Manchester, feel like home.”

Manchester City’s Director of Football Therese Sjögran added: “Everyone who has watched Aoba over the past two seasons knows how exciting a player she is, but also how high her potential is.

“This is why we’re thrilled that she has extended her stay and committed her future to City.

“Her quality on the pitch and attitude off it epitomises the team we aim to be, and we’re delighted to keep moving forward with her as a part of the squad.”

FULFILLING POTENTIAL

Having potential is one thing, delivering on it is very different. But that’s what Aoba Fujino is doing week in, week out at City.

Blisteringly quick pace, wicked crossing ability and a calmness in front of goal, it’s a real statement of intent that the Japan international feels the best place to continue her rapid development is right here in Manchester.

There’s been a clear year-on-year progression from our number 20 since making the switch to the WSL in the summer of 2024.

Adapting to a new league, footballing culture and language at just 20 is a daunting prospect, but Fujino still managed to grab four goals and nine assists in her debut season at the Club.

That included an impressive solo effort in the 2025 League Cup final, but there was a real sense that what City fans had seen of Fujino was simply the beginning.

And it didn’t take long for that hypothesis to be realised, with a starring role in City’s iconic double-winning season in 2025/26.

Key contributions were made in early wins over Brighton and Liverpool, with Aoba setting up Yui Hasegawa for the winner in the former and grabbing the decisive goal herself en route to a gutsy 2-1 win in the latter.

That impact never let up, with Fujino also on target in our FA Cup final win over Brighton – a victory that confirmed 2025/26 as our most successful season to date.

When adding an Asian Cup triumph into that mix in March 2026, it’s safe to say 2025/26 was also Aoba’s most successful season to date.

But what’s so exciting from watching her and also listening to her interview after signing her extension, is that she (and the Club) firmly believe the best is yet to come.
