Gareth Taylor preview
Gareth Taylor revealed in his pre-match press conference that Hayley Raso and Alanna Kennedy are nearing a return and could be in contention to face the Villans.
The Australian duo are both back in training having missed the past few weeks through injury.
Taylor also explained that Esme Morgan is ‘ready’ having made a late cameo against Tottenham Hotspur in early March following her recovery from an Achilles injury.
Competition format
If the two sides remain deadlocked after 90 minutes, then an additional half hour of extra time will be played at Bescot Stadium.
Should it still be level after this, then a penalty shootout will decide which side reaches the semi-finals.
If Gareth Taylor‘s side are victorious, then details of the last four draw will be shared on mancity.com and the app in due course.
The other quarter-final ties taking place are:
Lewes v Manchester United
Birmingham City v Brighton & Hove Albion
Reading v Chelsea
Form Guide
City enter the tie in scintillating form, having lost just once since September.
That run stretches across 21 matches in all competitions, with Gareth Taylor‘s side having won 18 of those encounters.
However, the Villans boast an equally impressive hot streak, having lost just once in 2023.
They come into the tie on the back of a six-match unbeaten run.
Last time out
A brace from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw earned City a hard-fought 2-1 win at Brighton on Sunday 12 March.
The Jamaican opened the scoring midway through the first half after neat link play with Yui Hasegawa, becoming our highest-scoring women’s player across a single season in the process.
However, the hosts levelled before the break through Elisabeth Terland’s curling strike.
It looked like City would have to settle for a point but, with stoppage time approaching, Shaw would pounce once again when she found the bottom corner with a clinical left-footed finish.
Villa, meanwhile, beat West Ham 2-1 in their most recent fixture, with goals from Rachel Daly and Jordan Nobbs sealing the points.
Previous meeting
City and Aston Villa played out an entertaining 1-1 draw at the Academy Stadium in our most recent showdown in January 2023.
Deyna Castellanos calmly slotted home her first WSL goal of the season having been sent through by Bunny Shaw to hand City the lead, but the visitors would reply inside three minutes through Kirsty Hanson.
The Manchester United loanee would hit the post after the break, while Shaw would force several smart saves from Villa stopper Anna Leat in an end-to-end encounter.
However, the two sides couldn’t be separated in our first home match of 2023.
