Ayaka Yamashita will wear the number 31 shirt during her time at Manchester City.

The Japan international brings a wealth of experience to the Joie Stadium after a trophy-laden career in her homeland.

Indeed, Yamashita already boasts 64 senior international caps and 17 major honours during her career to date, despite still being just 28 years old.

And she has opted to be City’s number 31 having joined the Club from INAC Kobe Leonessa.

The goalkeeper will be the first women’s player to wear the shirt since our professional relaunch in 2014.

She says her appreciation for men’s stopper Ederson was behind the decision to choose number 31.

“It’s also exciting to join a team with Ederson, whom I admire,” Yamashita explained in her first interview as a City player.

“To wear the same shirt, I’m really looking forward to it.”
