Ayaka Yamashita's save against Chelsea has been shortlisted for the 2025/26 Barclays Women's Super League Save of the Season award.

Yamashita put in a fine display at the Etihad Stadium in February 2026, as the Blues emphatically beat the reigning WSL champions.

Despite eventually running out 5-1 winners, City had to withstand plenty of pressure from the visitors in the first half, with Erin Cuthbert’s vicious long-range drive expertly tipped over the bar by Yamashita.

It was another excellent save from the Japan international, who is also level with Hannah Hampton and Phallon Tullis-Joyce in the race for the WSL Golden Glove award, with seven clean sheets to her name.

Yamashita is up for Save of the Season alongside Leicester’s Janina Leitzig, Arsenal pair Daphne van Domselaar and Anneke Borbe and London City Lionesses’ Elena Lete.

Voting is opening until 10:00 (UK) on Wednesday 13 May, with the winner revealed at the WSL Football Awards on Monday 18 May.
