Five members of the current City squad helped England to a first major international triumph since 1966 this summer, with winger Chloe Kelly grabbing the game’s winning goal.
A crowd of 87,192 watched the match at Wembley Stadium, a record for a women’s international attendance in Europe and the most for any European Championship finals match.
And since that triumph, Simmons has reported a marked increase in attendances across the board in the Women’s Super League.
The average crowd at Championships matches, the second tier of Women’s football, has also gone up by 85%.

Simmons said: “I am delighted to reveal that since the season commenced, we have seen almost 300,000 spectators attend matches across the Barclays Women’s Super League.
“This just highlights how much appetite there is for world-class women’s league football.
“We are currently averaging almost 6,000 fans a week in the Barclays Women’s Super League as we go into the final league fixtures of 2022 - which is up over 200% on this time last year.”

The current WSL attendance record stands at 47,367 for September’s clash between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates Stadium.
With over 40,000 tickets snapped up for Sunday’s Etihad derby, City could be on track to break that record.
