Opposition manager - helen bleazard
The former Welsh-international was appointed manager of AFC Bournemouth’s women’s team in September 2025 following her retirement from her playing career.
There’s no doubt she’s done an outstanding job on the South Coast and was recently awarded National League’s December Manager of the Month award after an unbeaten month for the Cherries.
Bleazard steered AFC Bournemouth to an unbeaten and historic month in the league and FA Cup – as they won all three of their games.
The month began with an 8-0 demolition of hosts Billericay Town, before reaching the FA Cup fourth round for the very first time with a 5-0 win over Fulham.
Finally, a dramatic 3-2 victory over fellow title chasers Watford saw Bournemouth cement their spot at the top of the table at Christmas.
Ones to watch
While working full-time for Thames Water, on the pitch Sophie Quirk will hunt down leaks in the opposition’s defence.
She sits proudly as the Cherries’ top goal scorer this season (20) and after helping Portsmouth to the WSL 2 in 2023/24 it’s no surprise to see her thriving.
Between the sticks is Erin Foley who won the Golden Glove award for most clean sheets in 2024/25 with a total of 15 games in the league.
Jenna Markham led the goal scoring charts as Bournemouth completed a memorable double in 2024/25, her first season at the club.
She recorded 26 goals and 13 assists, with her 39 goal involvements contributing to a record-breaking campaign for the Cherries which saw them score 100 times in the league.
In the middle of the park is Molly Baron Clarke, who when not on the grass is usually found with sand between her toes as the Head Coach of the England Women Beach Soccer Team.
Barron-Clark enjoyed an extremely successful beach soccer career as a player which saw her crowned the Best Women’s Player at the Beach Soccer Stars 2021, whilst winning multiple European titles at both club and national team level.
On the pitch she played an instrumental role in their 2024/25 double winning campaign, her fifth season at the club. The gifted playmaker was involved in 29 goals in all competitions, with scoring 10 and assisting in 19.
last time out
City’s phenomenal run of form continued into the new year with a deserved 2-0 win over Everton in the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Kerolin gave City the lead before Vivianne Miedema made it two with a clinical finish after the hour mark.
It means City’s winning run now extends to 11 WSL matches, and we remain six points clear at the top of the table.
