Nick Cushing preview

Our Interim Head Coach confirmed he had no fresh injury concerns ahead of our clash with Brighton.

The likes of Ayaka Yamashita, Rebecca Knaak, Laura Blindkilde Brown and Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw have all been ruled out across March and are unlikely to feature, alongside longer term absentees such as Lauren Hemp, Alex Greenwood, Risa Shimizu, Codie Thomas and Tara O’Hanlon.

However, Cushing did provide a positive update on Greenwood’s progress, with our captain now back on pitch.

“Alex... as you’ve probably seen on social media is on pitch, so she’s closer,” he said in his pre-match press conference.

“For me it’s just about trusting the performance team, they’re doing an incredible job.

“When those players are ready, you’ll start to see them in the photographs and videos.”

Last time out

City suffered an agonising exit from the UEFA Women’s Champions League when we were beaten 3-0 by Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

First-half goals from Sandy Baltimore, Nathalie Bjorn and Mayra Ramirez cancelled out our 2-0 first leg win at the Joie Stadium in the quarter-final clash.

Cushing’s injury-hit side battled until the very end but couldn’t find the crucial equaliser which would have forced extra time as our European adventure came to an end.
