Manchester City remain at the top of the Barclays Women’s Super League table following a fourth win in a row after edging past Charlton Athletic.
City were put under early pressure at The Valley, but began to regain control and dominate possession in the hosts’ half, and our persistence began to pay off as half-time loomed large.
A free-kick was awarded to City just outside the box, and once it was within striking range, the skipper was always going to step up and shouldered the responsibility with confidence by finding the bottom corner.
Following on from the goal, it was about controlling the game and limiting Charlton’s attacks and set-pieces and being professional.
Away from the goal, it was also a first clean sheet of the season, and that honour fell to Eartha Cumings, who started for the first time in any competition this season.
