Andrée Jeglertz hopes City’s Barclays Women’s Super League title triumph will give his players the confidence to challenge for other top honours in the future.

The Blues were confirmed as WSL champions with a game to spare on Wednesday evening after Arsenal’s draw with Brighton & Hove Albion.

But it’s a quick turnaround for City, who will be aiming to beat Chelsea on Sunday and reach the FA Cup final for the first time since 2022.

Jeglertz is under no illusions that this weekend’s 15:30 (UK) clash at Stamford Bridge will provide a stern test for his players, but he thinks our success in the WSL has given the squad even more belief that we can compete for top honours both this season and beyond.

Asked how much of a boost our WSL triumph had been ahead of this weekend, our Head Coach said: “Yeah, I think so. I think winning should also be something that creates a mentality.

“We know we have beaten them before, we know we can win one title, we need to keep working to win the next one.

“You build confidence by winning a title and you can also bring it to the next competition and game.

“We’ve shown as a team that even though the game is back and forward, we’ve found a winner. That’s a confidence boost for the group.”

Jeglertz also provided a positive squad update ahead of our trip to Stamford Bridge, with Rebecca Knaak to be assessed in the coming days.

The German defender was City’s hero last weekend when she headed home a stoppage time winner against Liverpool, despite clearly struggling with a shoulder issue for most of the contest.

Our Head Coach says the centre-half will be looked at in the days leading up to our clash with Chelsea, but adds there are no fresh concerns elsewhere among the squad.

On Knaak, he added: “She’s still being assessed. She’s done part of the sessions this week.

“We’ll see how she goes these coming days before we make a decision.

“It’s always like this when you are at the end of the season, a couple of players have some hits but hopefully nothing that’s keeping anyone out of the game.

“[The squad] looks good, of course it’s been the day off yesterday, but the team is great, in a good place and confidence is growing when you know you’ve won the league and are the best in the country.

“It’ll be a motivated group travelling tomorrow.”
