Izzy Christiansen believes the sky’s the limit for City winger Lauren Hemp’s potential.

The dynamic midfielder has continually dazzled for Gareth Taylor’s side after arriving from Bristol City in 2018 – growing from strength-to-strength season on season - seeing her win the PFA Young Player of the Year in four of the past five seasons.

So far this term, she’s scored six goals and registered seven assists as we continue to fight on two domestic fronts this term.

This form has certainly translated for the Lionesses, too, with the winger impressing during England’s opening two Arnold Clark Cup victories in February.

Ahead of Sarina Wiegman’s side’s final fixture with Belgium on Wednesday, she came from the bench in a 4-0 victory over Korea Republic before starting in a 2-1 victory over Italy.

And Christiansen, who made 110 appearances for City before moving to Lyon in 2018 then to Everton in 2020, has been in awe with her form in 2022/23.

She told our Matchday Live broadcast for City’s crucial 2-1 victory over Arsenal: “She’s frightening, I don’t think she’s even got a ceiling in how far she can go.

“I play against her in the league and hopefully only twice a season! She’s outstanding, she really is and she’s such a humble human being.”

In City’s final match ahead of the international break, Chloe Kelly and Hemp were on the scoresheet as we beat the Gunners at the Academy Stadium.

The latter’s all-important goal in the 2-1 win was also a landmark strike for the 22-year-old as it raised her tally for the Club to 50 in all competitions.

And Christiansen has been impressed with the winger’s level head as the Barclays Women’s Super League title race heats up.

She added: “She didn’t even know it was her 50th goal [against Arsenal], some players have it in the back of their head. She doesn’t even know.

“It was a delightful ball across from Chloe Kelly and I think that sort of winger to winger goal must be a really satisfying feeling for the manager as well.

“They’ve got the front three combining and between the three of them and Bunny Shaw, they’ve all had a handful in both of those goals City scored.

“She’s one hell of a player, I can’t think of enough superlatives to describe her and she’s a lovely girl as well.”
