Izzy Christiansen revealed she’s taken Jess Park under her wing during the latter’s Everton loan spell.

And the former City midfielder says she’s been impressed by the youngster’s performances on Merseyside.

In a bid to gain more consistent minutes in senior football, Park was one of five loanees who joined the Toffees in the summer of 2022 until the end of the season – making the switch from Gareth Taylor’s side.

Since then, she’s made 16 appearances for Brian Sorensen’s team – scoring five goals in all competitions – which has seen her often included in Sarina Wiegman’s England fold.

Christiansen, who joined Everton in 2020, told Matchday Live’s broadcast for City’s 2-1 win over Arsenal, how she’s enjoying mentoring the English starlet.

“It’s been interesting, myself and Gabby [George] are the mainstays in the team”, she said.

“We had five loan players who came in the summer – now we’ve got four as one signed a permanent deal in January.

“There was an element of like ‘how’s this going to work long-term?’ But they’ve been great.

“Jess in particular, she’s a player we all know who has heaps of talent.

“I’ve taken her under my wing a little bit and she’s the type of player who needs some possible harsh words in training at times to keep her focus.

“I feel like she’s enjoying some great form because she has a real sense of freedom in the system we play. She comes into training everyday with a smile on her face.

“So do the other girls who are on loan, and I feel like we’ve achieved a really nice balance of welcoming people in. I don’t know what the future’s going to hold at the end of the season.

“Are they going to stay are they going to go? Are we going to bring new players in? A lot can change in football, but now is what’s important and everyone’s really gelling.”

Everton are currently enjoying a strong WSL campaign, which has seen them win three of their last four league games before a hard-fought draw with Manchester United last time out.

And Christiansen says there’s a upbeat mood in the Toffee’s camp, with Park at the heart of their good form.

She added: “There are good feelings [at Everton] at the moment and special mention to Jess, City’s player, but currently doing great for us.”
