Manchester City, Leicester or Charlton Athletic will face Bristol City at home in the quarter-finals of the 2021/22 Continental Cup.

Should Gareth Taylor‘s side defeat the Foxes in our final Group B North encounter, which was due to take place on Wednesday 15 December but postponed, we will host Bristol City on either Wednesday 19 or Thursday 20 January 2022.

There are a number of different permutations which could see either City, Leicester or Charlton all progress to the last eight.

To book our place in the knock-out stages, we require three points against Leicester to secure top spot.

Should Leicester win our game or the match be drawn, the result of the penalty shoot-out would determine who will progress with the winner receiving a bonus point.

The Best Second-Placed Team is based on and in order of: highest number of average points per game, highest average goal difference per game, highest average goals scored per game.

As it stands, City and Charlton have six points, while Leicester have five.

City have an average of two points per game, a +2 goal difference average per game and an average of 3 goals scored per game.

Group C side Charlton have an average of two points per game, a +2 average goal difference per game and 2.7 average of goals scored per game.

Leicester have an average of 1.6 points per game, a -0.3 average goal difference and an average of 1.7 goals per game.

If City reach the last eight, our meeting with 2020/21 Finalists Bristol will be our 17th in all competitions. We have won 12 of those encounters and have played them twice in the Conti Cup, triumphing on both occasions.

The quarter-finals will be single knock-out ties played to a conclusion with 30 minutes of extra-time and a penalty shoot-out if required.

The Final, which will be played at AFC Wimbledon’s Plough Lane, is scheduled for Saturday 5 March 2022.
