A spectacular long-range strike from Deyna Castellanos helped Venezuela beat Costa Rica 4-0 in the opening match of their CAC Women's Games campaign.

The City midfielder sent an audacious 40-yard chip over the opposing goalkeeper having picked up play just inside the opposition half.

It’s not the first time Castellanos has found the net in spectacular style, repeating the trick against Scotland in November 2022, and against Cameroon back in 2017.

The latter of those strikes even saw her nominated for the FIFA Puskas Award, which chooses the the ‘most beautiful’ goal over a calendar year.

Deyna’s latest stunner made it 3-0 to Venezuela on the night inside just 24 minutes thanks to early goals from Marianyela Jimenez and Ysaura Viso.

And the scoring would be complete before half-time when Viso doubled her tally to see out a comfortable opening win for the South Americans.

Castellanos and co. face Haiti on Saturday evening as they set their sights on maintaining their 100% record in Group A.

A final group fixture beckons on Monday 3 July, when they lock horns with Guatemala.
