TEAM NEWS
Gareth Taylor says Alanna Kennedy is the only player unavailable for this weekend’s Women’s FA Cup trip to Durham.
“Just Alanna with the situation when she came back into the Villa game with a quick turnaround from coming back from Australia,” he said.
“She’s in a good place and close to returning but she is the only one we are unlikely to see.”
GARETH TAYLOR PREVIEW
Durham are currently mid-table in the second tier of the Barclays Women’s Super League.
Taylor expects them to utilise their home advantage to make it as tough as possible for his side.
“For sure, they’re a difficult team to play against on their own surface which is a 4G,” he said.
“That makes it difficult to break away on counter attacks. We need to be smart and how we control those situations.
“When I first came into the job you were aware of teams more so on the professional side. Durham were a team who were always well regarded.
“They always seem to have the ability to develop young players. Lots of players have moved on from there.”
LAST TIME OUT
City closed 2023 with a fine 4-1 win away at Everton which moved us to second place in the Barclays Women’s Super League table.
Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw extinguished the disappointment of missing an early penalty to strike a sublime hat-trick on Merseyside – including a classy lob to break the deadlock.
Jill Roord was also on the scoresheet as she raised her tally in sky blue to six since her summer arrival from Wolfsburg.
PREVIOUS MEETING
City last faced Durham in a behind closed doors pre-season friendly in July 2022 where we recorded a 4-2 with at the CFA.
The encounter represented our influential captain Steph Houghton’s return from injury as Taylor used a mixture of youth and experience as we geared up for the 2022/23 season.
