Andrée Jeglertz’s fourth summer signing sat down with George Kelsey and Sam Cox in the latest instalment of the podcast which will be live on mancity.com and the official app later today for CITY+ subscribers as she discusses her career so far and settling into life at the Club.
Cumings joined City on the back of winning the 2024 Damallsvenskan title with Rosengaard, where they won 25 out of their 26 league matches while Cumings conceded just nine goals on her way to being named Goalkeeper of the Year at the end of the season.
But it wasn’t the first time our new ‘keeper has experienced success during her career.
“At Charlton I went 15 hours without conceding a goal and that was really cool,” she said.
“That was in my second year there, so we’d gone fully professional and funnily enough Neil from Bristol City was the goalie coach again at Charlton, so he was back and we were working together which was great.
“And then yeah, I think it was something like 15 hours. That was cool.
“I don’t think you notice it until you’re quite far down the line with it. I think it’s more like when it’s over, it’s a shame because it’s over now, and you have to start the clock again.”
“It isn’t until you translate the hours into how many games the streak lasted that you really understand just how impressive the feat is.”
Unfortunately, all good things come to an end, but the Edinburgh-born ‘keeper’s 10-game run helped her to be named as Charlton’s Player of the Year and marked her final season with the Addicks in the best way possible.
Following spells at Liverpool and Everton, Cumings went on to join Rosengaard in 2023 and, unknowingly at the time, made some solid City connections with Therese Sjogran and Rebecca Knaak.
“I think Therese is great, and I feel like we get on really well. She really believed in me when I signed [for Rosengaard]. Then, when City came up, it was nice to just speak to her again. It didn’t take too much convincing,” she added.
“[Rebecca Knaak] is so deserving of all the success she’s getting right now, the way she’s persevered and it’s so brilliant to see.
“There was a time [at Rosengaard] where she just couldn’t stop scoring and as a centre-back that’s very impressive.
“I reached out to her [Knaak] and was texting her about it [move to City] and she was saying how good it is here and how nice it is to be at City, so she was really supportive.”
