Ellen White has become England Women’s all-time record goalscorer.

The City and England striker bagged a hat-trick in Tuesday night’s sensational 20-0 World Cup qualifying thrashing of Latvia to leapfrog Kelly Smith in the Lionesses’ goalscoring charts with 48 goals.

Fresh from marking her 100th appearance for her country on Saturday with a goal, the 32-year-old made history once more at the Keepmoat Stadium, while Lauren Hemp also struck four - her first England goals!

Georgia Stanway and Jill Scott also wrote their names onto the scoresheet in the second half, while Stanway crafted six assists in total, as City players had 21 goal involvements in the record-breaking 20 strikes!

Five City representatives were named in England’s starting XI: White, Hemp, Stanway, Keira Walsh and Alex Greenwood. Scott was introduced from the bench.

The Lionesses came flying out of the blocks, scoring inside three minutes when Beth Mead slotted home Hemp’s cutback after Greenwood had crashed an effort off the woodwork.

Laura Sinutkina then produced an excellent stop to deny Stanway before White grabbed her 46th England goal, smashing in from distance to equal the Lionesses’ record.

Three minutes later, she had broken it, sweeping home a second Stanway assist to spark jubilant scenes.

Hemp then headed in her maiden goal for her country, adjusting well to convert Stanway’s cross, before Mead completed a 23-minute hat-trick.

As the England onslaught continued, the Latvia goal was peppered with shots in a thoroughly dominant Lionesses first half display, as the hosts looked to better their ten-goal haul from October’s meeting.

Ella Toone got in on the act, curling into the far corner, before Hemp doubled her personal tally, heading home the eighth before half-time.

The home side picked up where they left off after the break: White netting her third of the night with another strike from range before Stanway added a tenth from the penalty spot, after Mead was upended by Ligita Tumane.

Substitute Jess Carter then made it 11 from close range as Stanway tallied her sixth assist of the evening and Beth England made it 12 just after the hour mark.

Scott then nodded home a 13th to equal the Lionesses’ biggest ever win - a 13-0 triumph over Hungary in 2005 - before Alessia Russo extended the advantage further.

Hemp then made it a hat-trick of hat-tricks, driving inside before firing into the top corner to cap a memorable night for her and Jordan Nobbs slotted home a 16th with little over ten minutes to go.

Russo then made it four trebles on the night with two quickfire goals and Beth England smashed home the 19th.

Hemp completed the rout with her fourth, reacting quickest as a corner caused havoc inside the penalty area, as England recorded their highest ever margin of victory on either the women’s or men’s side to make it six wins from six in Group D with 53 goals scored without reply.

Congratulations to Ellen, who ends 2021 with twelve goals in nine England appearances - the most of any Lioness this calendar year - and Hempo!
