Ellen White has described playing alongside Manchester City and England teammate Keira Walsh as a ‘privilege’.

The City midfielder was one of the Lionesses’ standout performers in the opening match of the Arnold Clark Cup, which ended in a 1-1 draw with Canada on Thursday evening.

Since recovering from a calf injury earlier in the campaign, Walsh has been integral in our impressive recent run of results, which now stands at nine wins in eleven matches.

And White has hailed the influence of the 24-year-old at both Club and international level ahead of the Lionesses’ clash with Spain on Sunday afternoon.

“Obviously, I’m very privileged that I get to play at club level with Keira,” White explained in a pre-match press conference.

“I see day in day out what a talented player she is and how technically gifted she is on the ball.

“It’s a dream to have someone like that in our squad but I feel very lucky that I’m surrounded by so many talented players that I get to train with day in day out.

“It’s a really competitive squad.”

Looking ahead to Sunday’s 15:30 (UK) clash against Spain, White is expecting Sarina Wiegman’s side to be pushed to their limits.

However, the City forward is also relishing the chance to test herself against one of the best sides in world football.

She reflected: “I think as a footballer you want to play against the best players, the best teams, the best opponents.

“Collectively we’re really excited to face Spain, a different style of play to what we’ve faced as well, they want to possess the ball and we want the ball at the same time as well.

“I think it’ll be a really interesting matchup and one that we’re thoroughly excited to have and to test ourselves in.”
