Ellen White says she could not hide her emotion, as England reached the Final of the Women’s Euros.

The Lionesses’ all-time record female goalscorer helped the tournament hosts to a sensational 4-0 win over Sweden at Sheffield United’s Bramall Lane on an unforgettable night for women’s football in the country.

White was tearful after the game amidst the celebrations with the sell-out crowd – evidence of simply how much the achievement meant to her and the squad.

“I wear my heart on my sleeve – I think everyone knows how much I love playing for England and being part of this group,” she said.

“All of the emotion came out. It’s just so special to be part of this group – the players we have, the talent, the depth…

“It’s a real family and we’ve really grown, especially since Sarina [Wiegman] has come in. For the whole group, it’s been an incredible journey.

“I feel very proud to be in this group. We want everyone to be so proud of this team.”

Having started each of this summer’s Euros fixtures so far, White will be hoping to do so again at Sunday’s Wembley Final, where England will face either France or Germany.

Just two goals shy of breaking Wayne Rooney’s all-time England goalscoring record, the striker regularly performs on the big stage and says the team are counting down the seconds to the eagerly-awaited clash.

“It’s absolutely incredible to be in the Final with this group,” White added. “and with all of our family and friends in the stadium – the fans were incredible again.

“We just feel so lucky to be on this journey. Now, it’s one more game!

“We can’t wait to get there. It’s going to be absolutely incredible, so special.

“We’ll soak up every moment and hopefully do the country proud.”
