Ellen White says City need no extra incentive to be fired up by the prospect of Saturday’s eagerly awaited FA Women’s Super League Manchester derby.

The clash with United at Leigh Sports Village forms the centrepiece of the Women’s Football Weekend and is arguably the most significant league fixture of the season to date with Casey Stoney’s side currently sitting in top spot.

That has seen some observers tag United as prospective favourites ahead of Saturday.

City, however, will also go into the game on the back of a fine recent run of from which his seen us lift the Women’s FA Cup and then registered a new Club FA Women’s Super League record score via last Saturday’s 8-1 win over Bristol City.

And England striker White says the prospect of contesting the Manchester bragging rights means it’s a game City can’t wait to tackle and is one we will be full of confidence going into.

“The derby does not need any extra spice!” White declared.

“It is one fixture you always look out for as it’s a great game, and a great spectacle.

“And you can’t wait for it when it comes up.

“The Manchester derby is a great rivalry. To now have it within the women’s game is incredible. Hopefully, we can put on a big performance.

“It’s really exciting to be involved in. The preparation is the same but there is no getting away with how exciting it is. I can’t wait.

“We have been watching their previous games and they’ve had great start.

“If everyone wants to put them as favourites that’s fine. We concentrate on what we can do, the intensity of our play and we want to get three points.

“We’ve come off the back of a good week and we’ve got momentum going forward.

“Our preparation doesn’t change - it stays the same and, hopefully, we can put in good performances

“It’s a massive game - it’s a Manchester derby. We’ve had a really good training week; we’re really excited by it and we can’t wait for the game.”

Saturday’s match-up could be a first experience of a derby for American World Cup winners Sam Mewis and Rose Lavelle who both joined the Club in the summer and who could, intriguingly, face United’s star American duo Tobin Heath and Christen Press.

Though Mewis and Lavelle have only been at the Club for a few months, White was effusive about the impact the pair had already had on the squad and Club environment as whole.

“First and foremost, they’re absolutely lovely, amazing people – and great to have around the ground as they are so bubbly,” White added.

“They are both so technically gifted. Sam and Rose are great on the ball and bring something extra which is so exciting

“Their competitiveness is frustrating - they keep scoring in training and they shout out the score!

“But seriously, Sam has some much drive and power in her game and Rose is so technically gifted, in the way she drives and dribbles.

“Together, they have brought so much and they are really important member of the squad.”
