With no midweek game, Gareth Taylor‘s side are looking ahead to the first Derby clash of the season, as we travel to Leigh Sports Village to face United in a lunchtime kick-off, hoping to spark an upturn in fortunes following a disappointing run of results.
While White admits the squad are hurting in the midst of a difficult period, she says they are fully aware of the magnitude of this game, which she believes provides the ideal opportunity to show their fighting spirit.
“We know what’s at stake. This is a massive game for us – there’s no two ways about it,” she said.
“Every game we want to win and we’ve had some disappointing results. We know the magnitude of the game for us and we all know what it means to play in a Manchester Derby.
“It’s always exciting. It’s amazing that this fixture is part of the league now and it’s one we always look forward to.
“We want to get back to winning ways in the league and we’ll be doing everything we can to perform.
“Collectively, we’re pulling together and staying positive. We know what we want to achieve this season and hopefully, we can start again on Saturday.
“We can’t wait.”
White has already savoured the experience of scoring in a Manchester Derby, having bagged a brace in our Women’s FA Cup victory at Leigh Sports Village en route to lifting the 2019/20 trophy,
Though the striker is no stranger to finding the back of the net – and on the big stage – she described the ‘amazing’ feeling of scoring against United, adding she cannot wait to walk out on Derby Day with fans back in attendance too.
“It’s pretty crazy!” she reflected. “It’s an amazing feeling. I’m sure Caroline Weir could tell you!
“You can probably see I get excited about anyone scoring at anytime – but maybe it does add more spice and enjoyment.
“Those days are really special. You get a sense of the occasion and what it means in the game. I’m always excited to contribute – whether it’s a goal or assist, it’s always great feeling.
“It’s been so lovely to have fans back. It was such a long time coming and something we really missed – it wasn’t nice to have to get used to silent stadiums.
“With fans, you have excitement and noise and it’s really special. It’s something we really love and Saturday will be an amazing occasion for the fans and the city.
“It’s going to be a really great game and hopefully, the fans can help us and push us on.
“We want to put in a performance they’ll be proud of because we really appreciate them coming out and supporting us.”
