Ellen White made history for England once more, netting her 50th goal for the Lionesses in Friday night's 10-0 thrashing of North Macedonia.

The City striker, who became her country’s all time top female goalscorer in November, reached the milestone with the fourth goal of the night in Skopje, moving closer to Wayne Rooney’s overall record of 53.

The 32-year-old was one of six City stars to start in the World Cup qualifier at the Toshe Proeski Arena, alongside Demi Stokes, Lucy Bronze, Keira Walsh (celebrating her 25th birthday), Georgia Stanway and Lauren Hemp.

Jill Scott, currently on loan at Aston Villa, was introduced on the hour-mark, while Ellie Roebuck was also named on the bench.

Stanway was also on the scoresheet, bagging a brace with a goal in each half, while Beth Mead scored four and Ella Toone also hit a hat-trick.

Reflecting on another historic achievement, White expressed her pride but remained ever-humble.

“It’s a massive privilege,” she said. “It’s a dream for me to play for England. For me, it’s about doing anything I can to contribute to the team.

“I’m delighted to be on the scoresheet. The overall performance was really pleasing and scoring ten goals, as well.

“The standards we’re aiming for are really high and we wanted those three points.”

With 124 places between two teams in the standings and an 8-0 win for England in the reverse fixture, the one-sided scoreline came as no surprise and the Lionesses opened the scoring inside five minutes after Stanway and White had gone close, as Hemp drilled in a cross which was smashed home by Mead at the backpost.

The Arsenal forward doubled her personal tally with a chip from an acute angle, and White was inches away from diverting a Stanway effort on target before then heading onto the crossbar.

Toone made it three, driving into the bottom corner, while Hemp drilled just wide and saw a header saved by Viktorija Panchurova.

White then powered home a Toone delivery for her half-century and Stanway converted Hemp’s cutback a minute before the break to hand the Lionesses another commanding lead.

Mead completed her hat-trick inside two minutes of the restart, gathering another Hemp delivery and nudging past the goalkeeper, and converted her fourth soon after from the rebound from Hemp’s low attempt.

Stanway scored her second with a smart turn and well-placed low finish before being substituted for Scott on 60 minutes, alongside Hemp.

Bronze was then unfortunate to watch a header bounce wide in her last major action before she, Walsh and White were also brought off with 20 minutes to play.

Toone then slashed home Mead’s cushioned pass for the ninth and completed her treble a matter of minutes later, continuing England’s run of scoring ten in each of our away games.

Sarina Wiegman’s side currently boast a 100% record in Group D of European World Cup qualifying after seven games, sitting top with an astonishing 63 goals scored.

The Lionesses are next in action at Windsor Park on Tuesday 12 April where they will lock horns with Northern Ireland in a 19:55 kick-off.

Elsewhere, Jess Park completed an hour of England Under-23s’ goalless draw in the first of the Young Lionesses’ double header with the Netherlands, while Alanna Kennedy grabbed an assist for Australia in their last-gasp 2-1 win over New Zealand.

Two stoppage time goals helped Kennedy and Hayley Raso’s side to victory in the first match of their international friendly series.

The City duo both started for the Matildas in Townsville, with Raso almost handing the hosts an early lead when she forced a fine save from Victoria Esson.

But it was New Zealand who took the lead, when Anna Green found the net just after the half-hour mark.

Australia continued to press for a route back into the game and were eventually rewarded in a dramatic end to proceedings.

First, Emily van Egmond grabbed an equaliser deep into stoppage time, before Kennedy set up Chelsea forward Sam Kerr in the 94th minute to turn the game on its head.

The two sides, who will act as co-hosts for the upcoming 2023 World Cup, face each other in Canberra for the final match of their mini series on Tuesday 12 April.
