City duo Ruby Mace and Laura Blindkilde Brown both featured for England under-23s in a 3-1 defeat against Spain.

Mace started the game in Marbella as the Young Lionesses made a strong start with Aston Villa’s Freya Gregory and Chelse striker Aggie Beever-Jones both hitting the crossbar.

England took the lead in the 42nd minute when Tottenham’s Jessica Naz pounced on a loose pass to tee up Beever-Jones for a simple finish.

But Spain went in level at half-time following a quick equaliser from Olhane Valdezate and took control after the break.
