City defender and lifelong supporter Esme Morgan says the emotional celebrations of the players at the final whistle of our Champions League final victory brought tears to her eyes.

The England international was in Istanbul to witness the historic occasion, as Rodrigo’s second half strike secured the Treble for Pep Guardiola’s men in a 1-0 win over Inter.

Attending her first City match at the age of three, Morgan is fulfilling the dreams of millions around the world by representing her childhood Club, even captaining the side for the first time in November 2022.

Unsurprisingly, it was an emotional night for the defender.

“We went bonkers. It took my voice a good four or five days to recover, I was croaky for quite a while after that moment. It was amazing, I absolutely loved it,” she told Sky Sports.

“When I saw them lift the trophy I had tears in my eyes. I’ve supported City my whole life.

“I saw the emotion of the players which I think is what set me off.

“You know as a player when you achieve something and you’ve set your mind to something an put so much work into it, the culmination of that moment of lifting the trophy must just put so much feeling through you.”

Morgan was a special guest on our Matchday Live coverage of the Champions League final, sampling the memorable atmosphere in Istanbul before, during and after proceedings.

And while she admits the tension got the better of her during the match, it was an unforgettable experience for the City defender, surrounded by her fellow blues.

She said: “I loved the occasion. I was in the fan zone all afternoon with the City fans.

“By the time we left it was packed with blues, all in full voice.

“It was an amazing atmosphere, the game itself was a bit nervy and I was on edge for quite large periods but when the final whistle went, it was amazing.”
