The Olympic gold medallist was in the stands at The Academy Stadium to watch goals from Filippa Angeldahl and Hemp move City to second in the Women’s Super League table.
Hemp is a regular on Gareth Taylor’s team sheet and proved why after playing 78 minutes of the match despite having an ear infection.
“I was sat across from her [Hemp] in our pre match meal and she looked down in the dumps, obviously in a lot of pain, and I was like ‘come on Lauren you’re going to have the best game of your career today, believe’” Morgan’s story began.
“She scored an amazing goal. She grafts so hard, she’s always there fighting back and pressing and I’ve just heard Usain Bolt asked for her shirt so he must have been impressed.
“I don’t know when but he did. She [Hemp] just came to me and said ‘Es guess who’s just asked for my shirt’.
“I was wracking my head through the Chelsea team thinking who has she had a battle with today – I was too tired to think of anyone and she just said ‘Usain Bolt!’
“I couldn’t believe it, it must have been the pace,” concluded Morgan.
Morgan played a pivotal role in Gareth Taylor’s side, becoming the first team to keep a clean sheet against Chelsea this season.
Morgan, Laia Aleixandri, Steph Houghton and Alex Greenwood denied Chelsea of multiple opportunities to have a clear chance on goal as they tallied just three shots on target.
Goalkeeper Ellie Roebuck proved her reliability in between the sticks as she made comfortable saves to deny Sam Kerr and Niamh Charles the opportunity to get the visitors back into the game.
“We’re on a really good run of form and hopefully coming into the end of the season we can keep that up and put points on the board and just hope others slip up,” said Morgan.
