Gareth Taylor is excited to see what City are able to achieve over the next few years both on and off the pitch.

The boss has agreed a new three-year contract extension, committing his future to the Club until the summer of 2027.

Having won both the FA Cup and Continental Cup during his tenure so far, City find ourselves in a strong position to add to the trophy cabinet in 2023/24 as we continue to fight on all three domestic fronts.

Away from the field, the Club also recently announced plans to construct a purpose-built training facility for our women’s team in 2025.

It all points towards an exciting future for City, and one that Taylor is delighted to be a part of.

“I think most head coaches would say the same. Time is probably at a premium in our job, but we see the best things with longevity,” the boss explained after signing his extension.

“I think what we’re doing here and trying to achieve is a build and a long-term project of sustainability and also success.

“Since our inception as a professional club we’ve seen that, but we want more, and I certainly do want more.

“What excited me about this project was we were really starting to really get key people into the building.

“That’s not just with our playing recruitment, but also with our staffing recruitment as well which is really important.

“The exciting part is also moving to the new facility. I think there are many good things to look forward to and obviously the team is doing great at the moment, and we want that to continue.

“We know it’s really difficult to stay at the top, but that’s the target and that’s what we want to do.”

Having already reached the FA Cup quarter-finals and Continental Cup semis, City also find ourselves in the thick of the Barclays Women’s Super League title race.

Taylor’s side also currently boast a 12-match winning run in all competitions, which has included statement victories on the road at Arsenal and Chelsea, dealing the latter a first defeat at Kingsmeadow in over three years.

The boss has regularly highlighted the squad’s new-found ability to grind out results with our backs to the wall, such as those against Jonas Eidevall and Emma Hayes’ sides.

And he believes that quality is the result of hard work off the pitch and a stable squad on it.

Taylor added: “I think it’s definitely the continuity of the group, I think it’s certainly come from within because you’re talking about the same people.

“Maybe in a different situation in the past they might not have shown what they’re showing now and I think it’s all credit to them.

“We really push that. We train it as well which I think is really important.

“Tweaking a few things here and there in the training programme has been significant to help us. I think there’s a lot of individual work that goes on that and off the pitch.

“We have good staff here who really connect with players. Then you need the players to buy into it and they really have, want to improve and get better. They take pride [in that].

“That’s what we do now, take pride in our performances – not just with the ball, but also without it.”
