Gareth Taylor says he’s relishing the test Everton will provide in City’s latest pre-season friendly.

As our preparations for the start of the 2023/24 season continue, we travel to the Toffees on Saturday 16 September with kick-off at 12:00 (UK).

Last term, Brian Sorensen’s side respectably finished sixth in the Barclays Women’s Super League table and provided stern assignments each time we faced them – a 2-1 away success and 3-2 home win.

The Merseyside team will undoubtedly prove difficult opponents once again this weekend as the league campaign comes into focus.

And Taylor believes locking horns with Everton will progress his side further before our WSL curtain raiser with West Ham on October 1.

“It’s another game and I think it’s good for us as a team” he explained.

“They will come out and engage and it helps us with our build up game. We played them previously a couple of weeks ago.

“An away fixture next week which is slightly different, but I think that’s important because we start with an away fixture [against West Ham].

“Looking forward to playing against a decent Everton team.”

The meeting with Everton represents our third successive friendly in as many weeks following behind-closed-doors fixtures with Bristol City and Liverpool.

City recorded a well-earned 3-2 win over the Vixens before a hard fought 1-0 success over the Reds a week later.

For Taylor, he’s been buoyed by the visible improvements he’s seen within his squad at this stage of pre-season.

He added: “You can see teams are improving and we are as well and I liked some of the things I saw [against Liverpool].

“With us in terms of where we were as a group last season to where we have the potential to get to as well. I think that’s really important.”
