Gareth Taylor hailed goal scorer Laura Coombs as ‘a dream to work with’ after her second half header earned City a deserved share of the derby spoils in a pulsating 1-1 draw with Manchester United.

All told 44,259 fans gathered at the Etihad to register the Club’s biggest-ever attendance for a women’s match – breaking our previous highest tally by 13,000.

And after United had taken a first half lead through Leah Galton, City hit back after the break, drawing level through Coombs’ 58th minute header.

Both sides then had chances to win in what was an end-to-end finale.

It was her fourth goal of the season to date with Coombs also weighing in with three assists to mark the most productive return of her career to date.

And as reflected on the game, Taylor was keen to highlight the contribution of Coombs, describing her as a ‘dream to work with’

“I think she’s a top person first off and a really good player,” Taylor declared.

“It was so pleasing she was in there (the box for her goal).

“Normally they’re spectacular ones. she covered every blade today, her Deyna (Castellanos) and Yui (Hasegawa) in the second half controlled it better than first.

“Laura’s enjoying her football, she has a wealth of experience, she enjoys the group and her role in the team.

“She’s a dream to work with.”
