Gareth Taylor insisted Esme Morgan will go 'right to the top' after watching her skipper City for the first time in a 3-0 away win at Reading.

Morgan, 22, was handed the armband by boss Taylor to continue an impressive season that has already seen her make her international debut.

Speaking after the match, Taylor reiterated his admiration for Morgan who impressed in what he called a ‘really positive team performance’.

He said: “She’s one of the four captains we have at the Club, chosen by the players. Steph, Alex, Vicky and Esme.

“I have always said with Esme that I think she’s a future England captain. She’s going to go right to the top, I think, with what she’s capable of doing and her work ethic.

“She made a few errors early on in this game but her calmness and the way she controls the play, it’s important for us.”

City extended our winning run to five games with the victory at the Select Car Leasing Stadium in the Barclays Women’s Super League.

Two unfortunate own goals from Reading defender Emma Mukandi handed us a commanding lead before Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw continued her impressive form in front of goal.

On the victory itself, Taylor added: “It was a good performance. We scored some good goals.

“We potentially could have come in at half-time with a couple more. We probably didn’t quite deserve it for our final third play. It was just a little bit off key.

“We just needed to tidy up. We spoke about it at half-time.

“But I am really pleased. We played some good stuff.

“Reading don’t make it easy for you, especially when they get set-plays.

“They’ve got real quality that comes into the box and I was really impressed with the way we dealt with that as a team.

“It was a really positive team performance today.”
