Gareth Taylor has revealed that Mary Fowler could miss City’s Barclays Women’s Super League trip to Liverpool.

The Australia international took a heavy fall in our 4-1 victory over Reading last week having replaced Yui Hasegawa midway through the second half.

Fowler had grabbed her first league goal of the season seven days prior against West Ham United but will be assessed on Friday afternoon ahead of Sunday’s journey to Prenton Park.

The boss also provided an update on the progress of Fowler’s Australia team-mate, Alanna Kennedy, who continues to work her way back to fitness ahead of our final few matches.

He said of any injury concerns: “Just Mary [Fowler], unfortunately. Mary took a heavy fall landing in the Reading game.

“We just need to check in with her and see how she is.

“We train a little bit later on. Mary’s probably the only one as well as Alanna, who’s getting a little bit closer.

“We never thought she’d be back for this game anyway, it’s looking more like the final two games.”

City announced the appointment of Nils Nielsen as Director of Football for the Club’s women’s team earlier this week.

The Dane takes charge of coach and player development across the women’s first team set-up, as well as leading on player recruitment across the entirety of the women and girls’ pathway at the Academy Stadium.

Taylor says he and Nielsen have already had positive conversations on how they can continue the team’s development moving forward, both in terms of fresh ideas and in bringing the best out of our relatively young squad.

“I’ve had a good conversation with Nils for a number of weeks,” the boss explained.

“We share the same ideas and views on many things which is good and on others he brings a wealth of experience having been at a high level with Denmark and Switzerland as well.

“It’s a great addition for us and something that will help me a lot to concentrate on what I do.

“I think he’ll be a strong source of support in helping us in other areas.

“We always talk about investment and that can look like many different forms. I’ve always been about the bigger picture on players and where we can take them to.

“Even with the potential high-quality stars we have in the team, the likes of Chloe [Kelly], Lauren [Hemp], Bunny [Shaw] for example, we know there’s still a considerable amount of talent to really tap into there and more to come from those guys especially.

“The average age of the squad has changed quite a bit and we’re securing players now on longer contracts. We’ve seen a big change in the Women’s game in that space.

“Adding a Technical Director with Nils now, all these things are there to try to help us progress as a group and we’re in a good place to do that.”
