Gareth Taylor says Khadija 'Bunny' Shaw's injury isn't 'dramatic' ahead of City's Barclays Women's Super League opener at West Ham United.

The Jamaican enjoyed a phenomenal 2022/23 campaign, grabbing 31 goals in just 30 appearances in all competitions.

Those exploits saw her included in the PFA Team of the Year, and also secured a spot on the Ballon d’Or shortlist.

She sat out of the second leg of Jamaica’s Olympic qualifier with Canada earlier this week and Taylor revealed that the forward is being assessed ahead of this weekend’s WSL opener against West Ham United.

However, the boss added that the knock wasn’t too severe, and that it’s simply part and parcel of players returning from an international break.

“There were a couple of little niggles,” Taylor explained when asked for a squad update ahead of our clash with the Hammers.

“Bunny [Shaw] was one and didn’t play in the second game [against Canada].

“She’s with us now and is being assessed. We’ll see how she is for Sunday. It’s not anything dramatic.

“Everyone else is pretty good and in good spirits and pleased to be back.”

City’s 2023/24 campaign begins on Sunday 1 October, when we face the Hammers at the Chigwell Construction Stadium at 15:00 (UK).

Gareth Taylor‘s side were involved in a thrilling four-way race for the WSL title, just falling short in the final weeks of the campaign.

A positive result against the Hammers would provide the perfect platform for City to mount another tilt at the top honours.

For the boss, the season objectives are clear: “To win [the league], absolutely.

“That’s what we’re about at this Club.

“We take every competition seriously, none more so than the WSL.”
