Gareth Taylor has been named Barclays Women’s Super League Manager of the Month for February.

The boss guided City to successive WSL triumphs against Leicester and Arsenal across the month, extending our unbeaten league run to 11 matches in the process.

Goals from Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Chloe Kelly secured a deserved 2-0 win against the Foxes at the King Power Stadium.

And, after falling to an extra time defeat in the Continental Cup semi-finals less than 72 hours prior, City were full value for a crucial 2-1 victory over Arsenal in front of over 4,500 supporters at the Academy Stadium before the recent international break.

First half strikes from Lauren Hemp and Kelly were enough to see Taylor’s side leapfrog the Gunners into third place.

It means City are now just two points off the WSL summit, having avoided defeat since September.

And that success has been recognised by Taylor claiming his first Manager of the Month award.

The boss had to fend off the sizeable challenge of Manchester United boss Marc Skinner and Aston Villa’s Carla Ward to claim the prize.

Reflecting on winning Manager of the Month, Taylor said: “It’s a really nice feeling having hit the woodwork on a couple of occasions.

“It gives validation from the public and our supporters who I want to thank for voting for me in heavy numbers.

“It’s great and a nice achievement, and it’s really great to be able to share it with the staff who have put a lot of hard work into it.

“I’m obviously just the front of it, but it’s fantastic to recognise the hard work that we’re putting in.

“Hopefully that’s rewarded with trophies at the end of the season and if not, it won’t be for the want of trying.

“It’s always about the players at the end of the day.

“The support staff are there for the players but it’s down to them putting together the performances and results on the pitch that allow me to stand here and be able to receive this Manager of the Month award.”
