Manchester City Football Club are delighted to announce Gemma Bonner has signed a new deal.

The England international has put pen to paper on a two-year contract extension with the Club, extending her stay until 2022.

Since moving to City from Liverpool in 2018, the 28-year-old defender has made a huge impact, helping the Club to Continental Cup and FA Women’s Cup success in her first season at the Academy Stadium.

Armed with extensive experience, Bonner – who captained Liverpool to successive FA Women’s Super League titles prior to arriving at City - says she is delighted to have secured her future at City.

And she believes that, following the appointment of Gareth Taylor as our new Head Coach, the Club is perfectly poised to achieve even more success going forward.

“I’m really happy to put pen to paper and I’m looking forward to getting back with the rest of the squad ahead of the new season,” Bonner asserted.

“I’ve had a really good two years at the Club so far and especially last season, I felt like I played some of my best football so far with some incredible players around me, so I can’t wait to continue that journey.

“With the appointment of Gareth Taylor as our Head Coach too, it’s a really exciting time for the Club and we’re ready for the challenges that lie ahead.”

Allied to her defensive prowess and versatility at the back, Bonner has also proved to be a potent attacking threat, weighing in with 10 goals to date in his City career.

For his part, Head of Women’s Football, Gavin Makel, believes Bonner’s new contract marks another huge fillip for the City squad as preparations step up ahead of the 2020/21 campaign.
