Gracie Prior says Manchester City provide the perfect platform for young players to flourish after agreeing her first professional deal with the Club.

Having worked her way through the academy, the defender has built on a successful dual registration at Burnley during the latter half of the 2023/24 campaign to now sign professional terms.

An exciting prospect, the 19-year-old made her senior debut for the Club during the 2022/23 campaign and has regularly been involved in first team training ever since.

For Prior, those opportunities are an example of the high value City place on developing the next generation.

She said: “It shows there are definitely opportunities here and if you work hard, it’ll pay off.

“City definitely believe in homegrown players, and it just shows.

“You’re always given opportunities to train with the first team, I think that definitely helps.

“The staff always want the best out of you and encourage you.”

The defender was one of four academy players to make their senior debut in a 6-0 Continental Cup win over Blackburn Rovers in October 2022, coming on as a late substitute at the Joie Stadium.

A brace apiece from Mary Fowler and Julie Blakstad, plus further strikes from Hayley Raso and Vicky Losada, got our most recent defence of the competition off to a dream start almost two years ago.

For Prior, it remains one of her proudest moments to date and gave her a flavour of what’s to come.

“I remember coming on in the 80-something minute. I was so nervous waiting to come on but when I did, my adrenaline kicked in,” she reflects.

“It was an amazing experience. It meant everything and just showed what was possible. It was such a proud moment for me.

“To do it with my [academy] team-mates was so good. We all just wanted to do well so to have that moment together after was really good.”
