Yui Hasegawa played the full 90 minutes of Japan’s seven-goal thriller against Brazil.

The City midfielder was as impressive as ever but couldn’t prevent her side eventually losing 4-3 in the friendly match in Sao Paolo.

Hasegawa took her sparkling club form into the game and assisted Aoba Fujino’s 38th-minute goal as Japan took a 1-0 lead.

That advantage lasted just three minutes, with the hosts levelling through Bia Zaneratto.

Both teams made multiple substitutions at the break, and it was Brazil who struck the next blow, with Gabi Portilho making it 2-1 on 61 minutes.

And two minutes later, Zaneratto made it 3-1 with her second of the game.

Hasegawa continued to drive Japan forward, and it looked as though it had paid off in a dramatic finale.

Jun Endō pulled one back from the penalty spot four minutes from time to make it 3-2.

And two minutes later, Japan made it 3-3 through Mina Tanaka who looked to have completed a memorable comeback.

But there was heartbreak for the Japanese as exciting teenage prospect Priscila scored with almost the last kick of the game in the seventh minute of added time.

Elsewhere, Ruby Mace and Jess Park both started as England Under-23 recorded an impressive 1-0 win over their France counterparts.

Brighton’s Katie Robinson scored the only goal of the game on nine minutes.

Annie Hutchings was an unused sub.
