Jade Rose, Eve Annets, Naomi Layzell and Lily Murphy all featured in exciting international clashes for Canada and England Under-23 respectively.

Rose’s Canada were edged out 4-3 by Denmark in a thrilling friendly clash, while Annets, Layzell and Murphy’s England were beaten 2-0 by Norway.

Delaney Pridham had given Canada an early lead in Toronto, but the Danes replied with three quickfire goals before the break.

Spurs’ Olivia Holdt grabbed a brace either side of a Pernille Harder effort to hand the visitors control, with just nine minutes separating the three goals.

Evelyne Viens responded early in the second half, but Janni Thomsen’s strike for Denmark on the hour meant Olivia Smith’s 70th-minute effort was just a consolation.

Elsewhere, Annets started for England’s U-23s on their return to action for the first time in six months, with Layzell and Murphy introduced as second half substitutes.

But a goal in either half from Ronja Foss Arnesen and Josefine Birkelund earned Norway a 2-0 victory.

Layzell went close to halving the deficit with a close-range effort, but Norway goalkeeper  Emma Andrea Ronning made a smart save to deny the defender.
