Jade Rose says she is proud of City securing a hard-fought 2-1 WSL win against a relentless London City Lionesses side.

Second travelled to third on Sunday afternoon as the Copperjax Community Stadium hosted two sides looking to get back to winning ways in the top-flight.

Bunny Shaw gave City the lead early in the second half before Jana Fernandez equalised.

But just two minutes after the restart Lauren Hemp restored our lead with a sliding finish to see the Blues return to winning ways after back-to-back draws.

“I think that it was a full 90-minute team performance,” began Rose.

“I think reflecting on it, I’m just so proud of this group. Looking at the past two games, we haven’t necessarily gotten the results that we wanted, although we walked away with one point, there was something missing and we knew that we had more in us and we knew that we didn’t get the job done.

“And so to build off of those performances and have the performance today and to get the job done, it wasn’t the prettiest game but we fought and sometimes that’s just how football goes.

“You win some pretty matches and you win some dog fights and that was what today was.”

It was a first WSL appearance for Rose’s centre-back partner Rebecca Knaak in 2026/27.

And the duo were formidable. They faced 24 shots, contributed to 41 tackles and 29 clearances to leave London City ruing missed chances.

For Rose, she was delighted to have Knaak back at her side and expressed that her performance shows her hunger to continue to become one of the best defenders in the world.

“I’m so happy for her,” said Rose on Knaak’s return.

“Injuries are never easy. It’s the ugly side of the game that we all hate to see one another go through.

“But for her to work her way back and to have the great performances that she’s had since she’s been back I’m just so happy for her.

“It’s only my second season and I think that there’s so much growth that I’ve had through my first season and so much growth that is to come.

“I think that there is so many areas that I can still improve upon and I’m proud of the performances that I’ve had.

“But I’m hungry for more and I keep wanting to be better and strive for perfection, although I know no player is ever going to be perfect, but I think that’s the ultimate goal to just continue growing throughout the season, to continue to push in performances and get some more clean sheets and wins on the board.”
