Jill Roord believes Manchester City will challenge for silverware on multiple fronts in 2023/24.

The midfielder moves to the Academy Stadium from 2023 UEFA Champions League runners-up VfL Wolfsburg with an impressive CV, having won titles at both club and international level.

Still just 26 years old, Dutch international Roord is confident that Gareth Taylor’s side have what it takes to add to our trophy cabinet in the coming years.

Indeed, she insists the Club’s constant desire for success is a mentality that she shares.

“I think if you play for City, you compete for everything,” she explained.

“Getting the Champions League spot back, but also winning the league, I think with the quality we have in the team, that’s possible and also the Cups.

“Every athlete always wants to compete for everything, and I think in this team that’s reasonable.

“I hope to be successful together.”

Roord also expressed her excitement ahead of linking up with her new team-mates after this summer’s World Cup.

Facing Gareth Taylor’s side during her time in English football with Arsenal between 2019 and 2021, she admits she’s always been an admirer of our possession-based playing style.

And the Dutch international is relishing the chance to offer her wealth of experience to a squad which she believes boasts an equal measure of quality and potential.

She said: “I’ve always thought City is a big club and I’ve always really liked the way they play. I think that suits me perfectly.

“There’s a lot of quality in the team but also it’s a very young team with a lot of potential.

“That’s something that I find very important.

“I like new things and challenges and I hope to get that potential together out of the team.”
