The Dutch international signed from Champions League finalists VfL Wolfsburg this summer, adding further star quality to an exciting young squad at Gareth Taylor’s disposal.
We begin the new Barclays Women’s Super League season away to West Ham United on Sunday 1 October, with kick-off set for 15:00 (UK).
Although we ultimately came up short, City were involved in a thrilling four-way title race last season, taking notable scalps along the way in the form of Arsenal and Chelsea.
A win against the Hammers would provide the perfect platform for our latest title tilt, and Roord is confident that we’re capable of going the distance.
Speaking to Hayters, she said: “[The ambition is] To win. We want to win the league.
“In England that’s not easy, because I think there are four, maybe more teams fighting to win it, but we have the quality and the ambition, so that’s what we’re going for.

“I don’t really like to do that and focus too much on that.
“But I obviously want to be important for my team and I hope to develop here.
“It’s a new step and a new way of playing. I hope I’m going to be important for City and we can do successful things.”
The WSL is familiar territory for Roord, who spent two seasons at Arsenal between 2019 and 2021.
However, she believes that the English top flight has undergone a significant development ahead of her return to the league, both in terms of the quality on the pitch and the investment off it.
She can’t wait to showcase her talents in the WSL once again, as women’s football continues to go from strength to strength.
“It’s very good to be here, and there’s a lot of quality in the team,” she added.
“I’m super excited to start the league. The league’s developed so much from when I left so I’m excited to play.
“Women’s football in general has developed. Quality wise there are so many good players and teams but also everything around it, the popularity of the game which for me as a player is super exciting.”
