Kerstin Casparij says City want to end our mini-series against Chelsea with a bang in Thursday’s huge UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final second leg at Stamford Bridge

City will step out in London for what will be the fourth consecutive clash against Sonia Bompastor’s side holding a precious 2-0 lead from last week’s memorable first leg at the Joie Stadium.

It’s a precious advantage to take into such a crucial occasion with a place in the semi-finals at stake.

Either side of that European match, Chelsea edged a 2-1 win to take the League Cup final and then snatched a victory at the death – by the same scoreline – in last Sunday’s Barclays Women’s Super League meeting at the Etihad.

All three games have been incredibly competitive and full of the highest quality.

But looking ahead to tomorrow’s finale, Dutch international Casparij says the City squad are hungry to sign off in memorable fashion.

“We obviously want to make it even when it comes to the outcomes of the games,” the full-back said.

“It’s a very special scenario to play the same team four times and in such big games, the Cup Final, UEFA Champions League...

“And we’re looking forward to going out with a bang tomorrow.

“We are really looking forward to it. It’s an incredible game.

“The UEFA Women’s Champions League is always special and to have an opportunity to progress is exciting.

“Not just me but the team are looking forward to being as competitive as possible tomorrow.”

City may kick-off holding that vital two-goal advantage but for Casparij the mindset will be that it’s even stevens with everything to play for.

And she believes that City will look to mirror the approach that worked so well seven days ago in Manchester.

“I can’t speak for everyone but for me we start this game as 0-0 but we take a lot of confidence from the previous performance,” Kerstin added.

“We will go out there to attack the game and not to defend the 2-0.

“So for me it will start at 0-0 tomorrow. We know what we did well and where we can improve.”
