Kerstin Casparij says she is loving life at Manchester City ahead of our return to Continental Cup action.

The Dutch international joined the Club this summer from FC Twente, starting eight of our ten matches in all competitions so far this season.

She has already provided three assists from right-back during that time, two of which came in our opening Conti Cup victory over Blackburn Rovers.

Gareth Taylor’s side welcome Sunderland to the Academy Stadium for our next fixture in the competition, with kick-off on Sunday 27 November scheduled for 14:00 (UK).

It’s a game which Casparij will be hoping to maintain her personal form, but she insists she and her team-mates aren’t getting carried away.

“We’re buzzing, but everyone is also really relaxed. It’s not like “oh we’ve won six times, we’re unbeatable”.

“We’ve got confidence in ourselves, but we’re really chilled about it, we know we have to win each game and we look forward to Sunday.

“I’m very happy. I’ve been so happy to get so many minutes and to play in this team is such a joy. I feel like I’m getting better every week.

“Of course, I’ll make mistakes, but I look forward to improving and becoming the best version of myself here.”

As Casparij alludes to, City could secure a seventh consecutive victory in all competitions this weekend as a busy period of fixtures approaches.

And although Gareth Taylor’s side will go into Sunday’s clash as the favourites against our Championship opponents, the Dutch international isn’t taking anything for granted.

Indeed, she sees our showdown with Sunderland as an opportunity to continue our recent purple patch ahead of our return to WSL action against Brighton.

She said of the Conti Cup: “It’s incredibly important. You want to win every game and it’s another trophy.

“Winning on Sunday gets us closer to that and just to keep that momentum going is also very important. We don’t take that lightly.

“They’re a Championship team but we won’t approach it like that, we’re playing a good team and should take it very seriously, which we are.

“Playing in a different competition, it drives them. They’re coming to the Academy Stadium and they don’t want to just lose. I think they’re going to bring a fight.”

CITY V UNITED: ETIHAD DERBY

City welcome Manchester United to the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 11 December.

Kick-off is scheduled for 12:30 (UK), with tickets selling fast for our third-ever women’s match at the Etihad.

We hosted Everton there back in May 2014, before welcoming our local rivals in September 2019, when Caroline Weir’s wonder strike saw us run out 1-0 winners in front of what was then a WSL record crowd, and what remains a club record of 31, 213 fans.

With almost 40,000 tickets already sold, it promises to be another historic occasion.

You can secure your tickets online by visiting: www.mancity.com/tickets/womens or by calling: +44 (0)161 444 1894.
