Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw revealed winning the Barclays Women’s Super League golden boot is one of her aims this season.

City’s striker has been in red-hot form so far this term, impressively netting nine league goals and 12 in all competitions in 2022/23.

This has undoubtedly represented her best form since signing for the Club in June 2021, as she sits atop of the league’s scoring chart.

The 25-year-old’s latest in her magnificent tally came in our 1-0 victory over West Ham, in what was our first match since the winter break.

As a result, Shaw explained how claiming the coveted trophy at the campaign’s end is on her agenda.

“For the position that I play, it [winning the golden boot] is something I look to,” she expressed.

“I try to be involved and help the team whether that be defensively or attacking, so I believe once I’m involved and helping the team and scoring that’s one of the goals ahead.”

Gareth Taylor’s side’s victory over the Irons extended our unbeaten run to 11 games in all competitions, stretching back to September.

This has seen us close the gap and apply pressure on the WSL’s top three, while starting our defence of the Continental Cup in perfect fashion.

And Shaw says confidence in understandably high in the camp.

She added: “I think it [belief] comes from the team as well. When you win games you breed confidence as well.

“After the first two games, it’s a new team at the end of the day, so we just kept training and believing.

“We wanted to score early and obviously the first half didn’t go the way we wanted but we kept our composure.

“We spoke about that at half-time, trying to go out there and trying to get on the front foot and luckily the goal came.

“I think it’s just about staying ready and being in the game no matter what. Sometimes the game can be ugly but it’s just how you stay in the game and affect the backline and team.

“It’s difficult at times but we had our play, and we knew what we wanted to do. So when the ball went into certain areas I know the runs I wanted to make and it went in.”
