The midfielder’s new deal runs until 2025, and she is excited by what the future could hold for Gareth Taylor’s ambitious young team.
City’s last defeat came in September and, in the following 16 matches in all competitions, we have claimed victory on 14 occasions.
With seven fresh faces through the door in the summer, Coombs has been impressed with how quickly the squad has found its rhythm.
And the midfielder explained that the collective ethos within the team was a key factor in her decision to extend her stay at the Club.
“I feel really settled and valued here. We’ve got a great group here that’s so ambitious and so driven. I’m happy to continue to be a part of that,” she said.
“I feel that everyone who’s come in has already proven their worth. Although they’re young, they’re really experienced, [and] a lot have been to the Euros and big tournaments.
“They’ve all fit straight in and I feel like I’ve known them a long time already. It’s a good group, we’re all on the same page and I think it’s a really good foundation for the future.
“As a longer serving player, I’m just really happy I can be in and around such top calibre players every day.”
December’s PFA Fans’ Player of the Month, 2022/23 represents one of the best individual campaigns of Coombs’ career to date.
The midfielder has found the net four times already while also grabbing four assists – a season best in front of goal – with one of those strikes helping City claim a point in December’s 1-1 draw with Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium.
And while the 32-year-old is delighted with her current form, she insists it is the product of continued work on the training pitch, as well as her relationship with her team-mates and manager, Gareth Taylor.
She said of her purple patch: “I think it’s a culmination of playing with such top players and learning from them. It’s built and built.
“Last year and the year before I’ve probably felt the same within myself that I could give that to the team.
“This year, I’ve taken my chances when I’ve been on the pitch.
“The manager always rewards that, so I’ve been quite lucky in that respect.”
