It comes after the Blues recorded a superb 6-0 win over Bournemouth in the FA Cup to reach the fifth round of the historic competition.
After Khadija ‘Bunny’ Shaw and Lauren Hemp had given us a two-goal lead five minutes before half-time, Coombs scored twice ahead of the interval to raise her tally to five so far this season.
Second-half substitute Vivianne Miedema bagged a brace to round off the scoring, and by netting six on the south coast, it means Andrée Jeglertz’s side have plundered 53 goals across our 17 outings in all competitions – an average of 3.1 per game.
And Coombs says she was delighted to score two against the Cherries.
“This team is definitely goal hungry,” she declared.
“Everyone wants to get on the scoresheet even past the 90th minute and that’s a sign of a really good team, we never give up. We just want to get the biggest results every week.”
“I think it was Grace [Clinton], Blinky, a few one-twos and then I found the space and thought ‘I’m going to leather it’, it was nice.
“[For the second] I wasn’t sure if Bunny was going to shoot but I was thinking I’ll stand in the right position just in case! I’m really happy with it.
“I was really trying [for a third], but I’m happy to get two goals at least”
By beating Bournemouth, City extended our unbeaten run to 16 matches in all competitions which includes 15 victories.
Our phenomenal set of results sees Jeglertz’s team at the Barclays Women’s Super League summit and still competing in both the Subway League Cup and the FA Cup .
For Coombs, she says the environment at the Club has aided our quest for silverware this term.
She added: “[The mood among the squad is] so positive. It’s amazing looking around and everyone has a smile on their face and it just builds week after week.
“Everyone’s in a good spot.”
