Laura Coombs has described the prospect of playing in front of a bumper crowd in the Manchester derby as a 'dream'.

City host United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday 11 December, with kick-off scheduled for 12:30 (UK).

Over 43,000 tickets have been snapped up ahead of what promises to be an historic encounter for the Club.

Coombs was part of the squad who got the better of our rivals in the previous Barclays Women’s Super League match to be played at the Etihad in front of 31,213 - a record attendance for a City women’s fixture to this day.

And the midfielder has once again expressed her personal pride ahead of the latest showdown between two of the league’s title favourites.

“[I’m] so proud. It’s something you grow up dreaming about, going to games and having thousands watching you,” she explained in a pre-match press conference.

“It’s great, and I’m so proud we’re upping the attendance so much from 2019.

“[Women’s football is] going in the right direction and hopefully everyone can see that as well.”

Coombs has cemented a regular starting berth in Gareth Taylor‘s side this season, featuring in each of our WSL fixtures.

With three goals and three assists to her name in ten appearances across 2022/23, she has been one of our standout performers as we set our sights on a tenth successive victory in all competitions.

However, the midfielder insists her personal form has been influenced hugely by the squad’s collective ethos.

Indeed, she believes the team is improving every week, and hopes those strong showings can translate into a crucial three points this Sunday.

She said: “There’s no motivation needed against United, but it’d be great if we could end the year on level points.

“We’re just three points off the top then. It’d be really nice to end the year there after a tough start for us.

“Every week that’s gone by we’ve gelled a little bit more and got more confident in the way we play.

“We’re in a great place, winning nine on the bounce. It’s as good a time as ever to play them.

“I just try and go into every game with an objective, it helps when you have amazing players around you.

“I’m taking it all in week by week, trying to learn from my performances and be better every game.”
