Laura Coombs' second strike against Aston Villa has been shortlisted for the September Barclays Women's Super League Goal of the Month.

Coombs had already found the net against the Villans on the stroke of half-time when her effort on goal was too hot to handle for Hannah Hampton.

But it’s the second of her goals at Villa Park which makes the list in the first Goal of the Month competition of the new campaign.

The midfielder controlled Chloe Kelly‘s ball in from the right before finding the top corner of the hosts’ net with a clinical volley.

It capped off an impressive individual display, but unfortunately wasn’t enough to avoid defeat against a resurgent Villa side.

Coombs faces stiff competition from Tottenham’s Ashleigh Neville, Aston Villa’s Rachel Daly and Arsenal duo Stina Blackstenius and Beth Mead.

City winger Jess Park - currently on loan at Everton - is also up for the award for her strike in the Toffees’ 3-0 victory away to Liverpool.

Voting closes on Monday 10 October, with the winner announced on Thursday 13 October.
